STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
FOR
GREEN PASTURES CHRISTIAN NURSING HOME
BANBURY
1. This Statement of Purpose relates to Green Pastures Christian Nursing Home, The Hawthorns, Banbury, OX16 9FA. The Home is operated as a not for profit Christian Charity through Green Pastures Ltd. The Home Manager is Mr John Langridge and the Nurse Manager is Mrs Anna Lammyman who can be contacted at the Homes address.
2. The Nurse Manager will be accepted as the Registered Manager by the Care Standards Commission.
3. The Home is staffed by a Home Manager, a Nurse Manager, Senior Nurse, 7 Registered nurses, approximately 22 Care Assistants, a Financial Administrator, a Maintenance Manager, a receptionist and 6 domestic staff. Many of these staff are part time.
4. The Home is a registered charity and is governed by a Board of Directors. The Home Manager is responsible to the Board for the management of the Home. The Nurse Manager and Financial Administrator report to the Home Manager. The Nurse Manager is responsible for all aspects of care in the Home and all registered nurses and care staff report to her. 5. The Home provides for the elderly of both sexes who need nursing care.
6. The Home provides nursing care for the frail and elderly including those who are terminally ill.
7. Nursing care will be provided 24 hours a day by qualified registered nurses.
8. Prospective residents are carefully assessed both to ensure that the Home can meet their needs and that they are suitable to reside here. Residents who wander, are physically aggressive or who call out uncontrollably are likely to be considered unsuitable because of their effect on other residents. The Home has no rooms specifically allocated for short term respite care, although such care is undertaken if there are vacancies. Emergency admissions are likely to be an exception and will only be considered through the recommendation of local General Practitioners or Social Service Care Managers who know Green Pastures well.
9. Residents are encouraged to be active according to their ability. The Activities Co-ordinator arranges a variety of activities ranging from one to one, through small group to whole Home events. Friends and family are encouraged to help residents pursue their interests.
10. Each resident has a review after the first month and then regularly after that. This review will include a close relative or friend and were appropriate a Care Manager from Social Services. A regular Residents Meeting is held to provide a forum for discussion about the running of the Home and the facilities provided. An annual questionnaire to residents and their families provides a broad base for consultation.
11. The Home is protected by a Fire Alarm system and all staff receive training both during induction and once a year thereafter. The Home is committed to responding quickly to any deficiencies raised by the regular Fire Inspections.
12. The Home has a Christian foundation and Christian worship is an integral part of the life of the Home. Residents are invited to a weekly service and twice a month there is an opportunity to take communion. There are no arrangements for those of other faiths to hold worship services in the Home.
13. Relatives and friends are encouraged to visit as often as possible and there are no restrictions on visiting hours. Two small lounges are available for residents to entertain visitors. We are hope that relatives and family will be very much at home at Green Pastures and will feel able to join in with the life of the Home whilst they are visiting. Contact with residents by telephone is available either through a phone in the room or via a mobile phone.
14. Complaints are taken very seriously and a complaints procedure is made available to every resident as they come to live here. A complaints procedure is in place to handle issues of a serious nature and full information is available to assist contacting the relevant authorities with unresolved complaints. A copy of the Complaints Procedure is included as Appendix 2 of this Statement of Purpose.
15. Every resident’s care plan is reviewed monthly, or sooner if necessary, by their named nurse or her deputy. Where possible this is done in conjunction with the resident.
16. There are twenty eight rooms in the Home. Two are shared rooms, with two residents in each. Twenty six are single rooms, of which eight have an ensuite toilet. All rooms comply with the latest regulations regarding room size.
17. Therapeutic techniques used in the Home include the administration of oxygen, the use of suction and the use of a syringe driver in palliative care. Staff are trained in the use of these techniques and the equipment is regularly tested and calibrated.
18. All of our staff respect the fact that this is ‘home’ for our residents. Each resident has their own space and in shared rooms curtains are available to give privacy. Residents have choice regarding where they have their meals, what time they get up and go to bed and where they spend their time. On entering any residents room staff always knock first and where appropriate wait for a reply before entering. In offering help, often of a very personal nature, staff are careful to respect and maintain the dignity of the residents.
